New Delhi, March 6: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a number of activities from 28th February to 06th March, 2024 to create awareness about the “Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye” campaign launched by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India. The purpose of these activities was to ensure universal enlightened participation of youth in elections. The Election Commission of India has called upon young voters, including first time voters, to vote in record numbers and celebrate the #Chunav Ka Parv and join #Mera Pehla Vote Desh ke Liye campaign.
Campus ambassadors from JMI, Ms. Kulsoom and Mr. Aadil Alvi attended the workshop convened by District Election Officer/DM (South East) on 28th February, 2024. As per the direction of SDM(E) South East demonstration of EVM and signature campaign was held on 04th and 5th March, 2024 inside the university campus.
A Voter Awareness campaign was organised at University Polytechnic Auditorium, JMI on 6th March, 2024 where Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Principal University Polytechnic; Mr. Noorul Hoda, Nodal officer JMI; Dr. Abid Hussain, Program Officer NSS; Vaqar Hussain Siddiqui, Prog. Coordinator NSS and Dr. Bharat Bhushan were present along with a number of students. Campus ambassadors Ms Kulsoom and Mr Aadil Alvi conducted the program.
In the series of events, firstly screening of videos (Mein Bharat Hoon, My Vote My Future, Power of 18 Anthem) took place for spreading awareness among young voters. It was followed by the demonstration of the functioning of EVM by Mr. Rajendra Ravat where he cleared the doubt of young voters about the voting process and EVM.
A 'Pledge of Voter's' was administered by Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed to the audience comprising of students, teaching and non-teaching members of the university on 6th March, 2024.
A large rally was also organized within the university campus to create awareness about the elections and to encourage youth to participate in elections.
