
The Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with Istituto Italiano di Cultura (Italian Embassy Cultural Cantre), New Delhi organised a one-Day Interdisciplinary International Workshop on one of the greatest Neoclassical sculptor & artist Antonio Canova on 21st April, 2022. The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Chiara Rostagno, Architect, Ministry of Culture, Italy, Dr. Andrea Baldi, Director, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Prof Hina Zia, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics and Prof. Qamar Irshad, Head of Department of Architecture.The lecture was conducted by Dr. Chiara Rostagno, who is a recognised expert on conservation and restoration of art and architectural heritage including Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper.
She conducted the activity session along with Ar. Arshiya Ahmed and Ar. Nitesh Dogne.The workshop received an overwhelming response with more than 110 students from various courses in the 10 departments of JMI (Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Mathematics, Graphic Arts, Art Education, Applied Art, Art History and Art Appreciation, History, Design and Innovation) participated and produced their work. They contributed in the form of sketches, poetry and infographics to express their impression of Neoclassicism, in anthropometry or in the context of Indian ethos and traditions.
Following the workshop an Exhibition titled ‘Neoclassical Iteration: Roots of Beauty’ was curated by Prof. Chiara Rostagno, Ar. Arshiya Ahmed and Ar. Nitesh Dogne to be displayed at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (Italian Embassy Cultural Centre), New Delhi from 22nd to 27 th April, 2022. More than 40 students’ work were selected and displayed at the Embassy and appreciated by eminent people including The Ambassador of Italy H.E. Vincenzo di Luca.
