As a part of the Centenary Celebrations of the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Department of Computer Engineering of the university organized a week-long Faculty Development Programme(FDP) on Python Programming from on 30th August to 06th September, 2020 via Google Meet. This event was organised in association with Spoken Tutorials, IIT Bombay.The event received an overwhelming response with around 189 registrations across the country. The participants included Professors; associate as well assistant professors from JMI and other institutes. There was also a sizeable participation of research scholars as well as students from institutes like JNU, DTU, AMU, DU, NIT Delhi and IIT Bombay etc. There were a couple of participants from the Industry as well.This FDP offered a unique blend of offline as well online learning. Subject experts from JMI, IIT Gandhinagar, NIT Delhi as well IIIT Delhi gave hands-on based individual online lectures on various aspects of python programming.On Day-1, Dr. Sarfaraz Masood from Deptt. of Comp Engineering,. JMI delivered a hands-on based session on Introduction to Python Programming, while Dr Chandra Prakash from NIT Delhi delivered a session on Matplotlib library on the Day-2. Dr Mayank Singh from IIT Gandhinagar delivered sessions on Numpy and Pandas library on Day-3 & 4 respectively. On the final day, Dr Shad Akhtar from IIIT Delhi delivered a session on the Scikit-Learn library of Python. All these sessions were hands-on based session where participants were also able to execute the program components being discussed by the subject experts.The participants were also provided with a Self-learning offline video based module which covered all major aspects about core python programming. The participants had the ease of watching these videos during any part of the day and submit assignments based on these videos.The FDP members enthusiastically participated in this activity and submitted their assignments on regular and timely basis helping them to learn some aspects of python programming each day.On the final day of this FDP, the valedictory function was attended by Prof. Ibrahim Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology JMI, Dr. Shyama Iyer, National Coordinator Spoken Tutorial IIT Bombay and Prof. Tanvir Ahmad, HoD Deptt. of Computer Engineering JMI who also delivered the Vote of Thanks.
