Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Women Studies Centre, Hamidia Girls PG College, University of Allahabad jointly organised a poetry recitation webinar on ‘Feminist Thought’ on 22nd June 2020. Nine women poetesses recited hindi and urdu poems in this online program which was attended by about 100 people.
During the whole Covid 19 discourse women have been at its centre for their economic loss, increased domestic violence as a result of long lock down etc. The idea behind the programme was to connect feminist thought with current scenario, keeping in mind, how the whole world is going through with biggest socio-economic and psycho- emotional crisis.
COVID-19 and lockdown has impacted life of human kind in many ways. Young generation is facing huge emotional loss, pressure of online classes, students’ issues and its impact is already being discussed in many webinars.
This encouraged the organisers to see this emotional loss from a gender glance and give a healing touch to students, faculty and staff through this program. Dr Shah Abul faiz, Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI coordinated the program.
Prof. Shahzad Anjum, HoD, Department of Urdu, JMI presided over the session. Prof. Nuzhat Kazmi, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI has given a brief account of the Fine Art Faculty, about its courses and history.
Prof. Savita Singh, a renowned feminist poetess and fiction writer recited four poems, Is Jungle Mein, Sunder Baaten, Sarah ka Sunder Badan aur Jab Montreal Mera Shahar Tha.
Acclaimed poet and academician Prof. Farhat Nasreen recited four poems. Firdous Azmat Siddiqui recited two poems Haram and Mai ek aam Larki hun. Aparna Dixit has very beautifully captured significance of pocket through her poem ‘jeb’.
Ms Sushma Singh, Dr Sujata, Dr. Nabila Sadiq’s poetry recitation was followed by ghazal performance by Zarina and Rubina Ayaz.
Program ended with a valedictory remarks of Dr Yusufa Nafess, Principal, Hamidia Degree College and Dr Sabiha Azmi, Director Women’s Studies Centre, Hamidia Girls PG College.
The programme ended with the presentation of a vote of thanks by Dr Erum Usmani, Coordinator of the Event from Allahabad.
