In a nail biting final match the Central Office team defeated University Polytechnic on the last ball and emerged victorious to lift the winner trophy of the Jamia Premier League (JPL) -2024 yesterday night. The memorable day-night final match was played at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex of the university where the winning team chased a target of 155 runs on the last ball of the match. Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Officiating Vice Chancellor, JMI, Mr. M. Nasim Haider, Officiating Registrar, JMI, guests and other officers of the university were present during the final match.
Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Officiating Vice Chancellor was the Chief Guest of the closing & award ceremony while Mr. M. Nasim Haider, Officiating Registrar, JMI and Mr. Md. Zafar, Chief Manager, Indian Bank, JMI Branch were the guests of honour of the ceremony. They distributed the winner and runner-up trophy and medals to the teams and its members.
A total of 12 JMI staff teams from different Faculties, Centres and offices participated in the JPL-2024 which started on 5th May, 2024. During the month-long event 33 league matches were played at NMAK Sports Complex and Jamia School Cricket Ground.
The Organizing Committee of JPL-2024 was headed by Prof. Waseem Ahmad Khan, Director, Games & Sports, JMI and Prof. Mohd. Shahid Khan, Deputy Director, Games & Sports, JMI as its deputy chairman. Dr. Mohd. Moonis was the Organising Secretary with Mr. Shah Mohd. Faiz, Dr. Mohd. Arshad Khan, Principal, Jamia Senior Secondary School and Mr. Adeel Ahmad, Sports Officer, Jamia Sr. Secondary School as members of the committee.
The Vice Chancellor in his address congratulated the organizing committee for successfully organizing the JPL-2024 even during the ongoing harsh weather conditions. He appreciated the sportsmanship of the team members and emphasized that such events should be regularly organized.
