The Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (Institute of Advanced Studies in Education- IASE), Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), in collaboration with the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society, effectively conducted two two-day Awareness-cum-Sensitization and Training Workshops—one aimed at parents and the other for in-service teachers from Jamia Middle School and Mushir Fatima Jamia Nursery School—on the 6th and 7th of November 2025 at the Conference Hall of Child Guidance Centre, JMI.
These workshops were designed in alignment with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable education for all learners. The programs aimed to sensitize both parents and teachers toward the diverse needs of children with special needs (CWSN), providing them with essential knowledge, skills, and practical strategies to support inclusive education both at home and in school environments.
The initial event of the series began with the Inaugural Session of the "Two-Day Awareness-cum-Sensitization and Hands-on Training Workshop on the Needs of Children with Special Needs and Their Parents." The session was honored by the attendance of the Course Coordinator and Workshop Conveyor, Dr. Saurabh Ray, Assistant Professor of M.Ed. Special Education (visual impairment), along with Dr. Tausif Alam, Assistant Professor of M.Ed. Special Education (visual impairment), and Mr. Naseem Ahmad, Project Director of the Child Guidance Centre at the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society.
The afternoon session signified the commencement of the "Two-Day Awareness-cum-Sensitization and Training Workshop for In-Service Teachers of Jamia Middle School and Mushir Fatima Jamia Nursery School." The session was honored by the attendance of Prof. Syedah Fawzia Nadeem, Head of the Department of Teachers Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE), Faculty of Education, JMI, who presided over the session.
Prof. Bharti Sharma, a Professor of Special Education at D.. & N.F.E., JMI, and the Honourary Director of the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, JMI, honored the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan, who serves as the Course Coordinator and Workshop Conveyor (Associate Professor, M.Ed. Special Education - Specific Learning Disability), along with Dr. Saurabh Ray, Course Coordinator and Workshop Conveyor, Assistant Professor, M.Ed. Special Education (Visual Impairment), Prof. Mohammad Ghazi Shahnawaz, General Secretary of the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society, and Mr. Naseem Ahmad, Project Director of the Child Guidance Centre at the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society, also graced the ocassion.
The valedictory session of the parents’ workshop was held on 7th November 2025 at 12:00 PM, marking the successful conclusion of the two-day initiative.

The concluding session of the teachers’ workshop took place on 7th November 2025 at 4:30 PM, marking the formal closure of the two-day program.
The entire workshop was planned and managed by the students of the M.Ed. Special Education (SLD & VI), 3rd Semester, from the Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE), operating under the group name "Divyang Warriors." Their commitment, collaboration, and professionalism guaranteed the successful implementation and significant influence of both programs.
