Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has received a significant and valuable opportunity to participate in the Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Program organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India. This marks the first time that students from the university have been selected to take part in this prestigious national initiative aimed at strengthening cultural understanding and national integration. Under this program, a delegation of 20 students from Jamia Millia Islamia have been selected to participate in a fully funded academic and cultural exchange tour in the northeastern region of India from March 15 to 28, 2026.
The program covers air travel, accommodation, and other logistical support, with the delegation currently hosted at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati for various academic interactions, institutional visits, and cultural activities.
The Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Program is designed to foster deeper engagement between youth from different regions of the country. The initiative aims to promote national integration, cultural exchange, and awareness about the rich heritage, diversity, and developmental initiatives of the northeastern states of India. Through academic discussions, field visits, and cultural interactions, the participating students will gain valuable insights into the socio-economic and cultural landscape of the region.
The participation of Jamia Millia Islamia in this program has been made possible under the guidance and keen mentorship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif; Hon’ble Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi; and Director of the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Abuzar Khairi. Their constant support and vision to promote student engagement in national-level initiatives have played a crucial role in facilitating this opportunity for the students.
The delegation is being coordinated by Mr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, Assistant Professor at the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, who has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for the program by Ministry of DoNER, Govt of India & Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. His efforts in coordination and guidance have been instrumental in ensuring the participation of Jamia Millia Islamia in this prestigious youth exchange initiative.
Jamia Millia Islamia believes that participation in such national programs will broaden the intellectual and cultural horizons of students, strengthen bonds between different regions of the country, and encourage young minds to actively contribute towards the vision of national unity and inclusive development.
Through this initiative, the university continues its commitment to fostering inter-regional dialogue, academic exchange, and youth engagement, thereby nurturing socially responsible and culturally aware citizens for the future.
