Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Jamia Hamdard organized an interactive webinar on “COVID-19 Pandemic: Challenges and Opportunities” on 30th July 2020 aiming to create awareness and apply strategies to deal with COVID-19 pandemic and how to make our surroundings a new normal amid the pandemic of COVID-19.
The webinar got an overwhelming response from more than 200 delegates from Jamia Hamdard. The webinar was hosted on the Google Meet platform.
The webinar started with the address by Dean, SNSAH, Prof. Ona P. Desai, where she welcomed all the participants and speakers and emphasized that in the new normal times, physical boundaries are getting blurred and it is important for the academic community to unite together from across several disciplines on virtual platforms and rise to the challenges in front of us.
Prof. Dr. Manju Chhugani gave the presidential remarks where she presented valuable insights on the holistic approach in the COVID-19 pandemic. She congratulated all the participants and reflected the need to organize more such events in the future.
Dr. Khursheed A. Ansari (Associate Professor, SUMER), Dr. Zeenat Iqbal (Associate Professor, SPER), Dr. Aqsa Shaikh (Associate Professor, HIMSR) and Ms. Seema Rani (Associate Professor, SNSAH were the speakers for the webinar. The sessions focused on the challenges which the students and faculties are facing in the COVID-19 world. Different coping strategies were also discussed.
During the session, Dr. Khursheed A. Ansari focused on SARS-nCoV2 and COVID 19 as the global physical, mental and social health concern. Scientists and researchers are incessantly engaged in finding out the therapeutics and vaccines for treatment and prophylaxis. In such tough times; academicians and health care professionals have to engage the youth for more accountability for the mental and social health of our countrymen. This will not only inculcate the social responsibility amongst them but also give them opportunity to express themselves for a contemporary alarming crisis. Dr. Ansari ended his session with the following quote;
“जागरूकता ही सुरक्षा है” as take home message.
Dr. Zeenat Iqbal gave her valuable inputs about the role of health workers and rehabilitation in the fight with COVID-19. She highlighted the role of society in coping with mental issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She emphasized the holistic approach towards the fight with the CORONA pandemic. She also emphasized on the role of health care workers and our Corona warriors during this pandemic era. She quoted these words for all the participants as take-home message “Reflect, reconnect, resurrect, rehabilitate with all Resilience”.
Dr. Aqsa Shaikh, during her session, had given new hope in this COVID-19 pandemic with these by highlighting the very fact that; these webinars are not just helping in engaging the students constructively but also in instilling empathy and value of humanity which is a core ideal of Nursing and Rehabilitation Sciences. The COVID Pandemic has given us all an opportunity to think, reflect, and act; to change our practices, to adapt and be better human beings for a better world. I hope we all become better humans when we emerge out of the pandemic in a new changed world; she was quoted saying.
