The Bamboo Research and Training Centre (BRTC) in Chichpalli, Chandrapur, Maharashtra, has received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to launch a three-year Diploma in Bamboo Technology from the 2026-27 academic session. The approval makes BRTC the first institution in India to secure AICTE recognition for a standalone diploma programme in Bamboo Technology.
Affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), Mumbai, the programme has been approved with an annual intake capacity of 60 students.
Landmark Recognition for Bamboo Education
The AICTE approval marks a significant milestone for technical education in the bamboo sector. While BRTC has been conducting a state-recognised Diploma in Bamboo Technology since 2017, the latest recognition elevates the programme to a nationally accredited qualification.
The development is expected to enhance the credibility of bamboo-based technical education and create greater opportunities for students seeking careers in sustainable industries and green technologies.
Curriculum Focused on Industry and Entrepreneurship
The three-year diploma programme has been designed to provide students with both technical knowledge and practical skills relevant to the bamboo value chain.
The curriculum includes:
- Bamboo processing and treatment technologies
- Bamboo furniture manufacturing
- Bamboo construction techniques
- Handicrafts and value-added products
- Bamboo nursery management
- Product design and innovation
- Entrepreneurship development
- Industrial training and field exposure
The programme aims to prepare skilled professionals capable of supporting the growing bamboo industry while promoting self-employment and enterprise creation.
Hands-On Training Through Advanced Infrastructure
Students enrolled in the programme will receive practical training through BRTC’s specialised infrastructure, including workshops, treatment plants, machinery units, research facilities and field-based learning programmes.
The institute's focus on experiential learning is expected to equip students with industry-ready skills and exposure to real-world applications of bamboo technology.
Boost for Maharashtra’s Green Economy
Experts believe the AICTE recognition will strengthen Maharashtra’s position in the bamboo sector and contribute to the development of sustainable industries.
The initiative is expected to support:
- Green technology adoption
- Rural industrial development
- Employment generation
- Skill development
- Sustainable entrepreneurship
The approval also aligns with broader efforts to promote eco-friendly materials and strengthen bamboo-based industries as part of India's sustainable development agenda.
