Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 50.06-km Reengus–Sikar rail section in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of Rs 470.34 crore, aiming to strengthen rail connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and support regional economic growth.
The project, under North Western Railway, will significantly enhance the capacity of this key regional route. With the doubling work, the section will be able to run five additional trains daily in both directions and boost freight movement by about 2.36 metric tonnes per year, improving reliability and speed of both passenger and cargo services.
Better Connectivity to Industrial and Pilgrimage Centres
The upgraded line will improve access to important industrial and religious destinations, including Khatu Shyam Ji Temple and Salasar Balaji Temple, making travel smoother for pilgrims and boosting local business activity.
Currently operating at about 77 percent capacity, the Reengus–Sikar section is projected to reach 210 percent utilization by 2029-30. The doubling project will help accommodate this future traffic growth efficiently while reducing delays and improving punctuality.
Economic and Regional Benefits
The project is expected to strengthen freight logistics, improve service reliability, and create new opportunities for trade, employment, and regional development. Local passengers and businesses will benefit from faster connectivity and improved transport infrastructure.
These railway initiatives reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to building an inclusive, sustainable, and modern transport network that enhances connectivity, improves service quality, and supports long-term economic growth.
