The Government of India has revised the release schedule for provisional annual GDP estimates and fourth-quarter GDP data, shifting the publication date from the last working day of May to June 7 every year.
The Ministry said the decision was taken after consultations with the Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics and is aimed at improving the quality, coverage, and robustness of national accounts data.
Under the revised framework:
- Provisional annual GDP estimates will now be released on June 7
- Q4 GDP estimates will also be announced on the same date every year
Why the Government Changed the GDP Release Date
According to the ministry, the revised timeline is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the accuracy and reliability of macroeconomic indicators used in national accounts compilation.
The additional time is expected to:
- Improve data validation and reconciliation
- Enhance sector-wise data coverage
- Reduce revisions arising from delayed inputs
- Strengthen credibility of official economic statistics.
