Union Home Minister Amit Shah will flag off the first fleet of eco-friendly electric buses in Ahmedabad, Gujarat this morning. He will also inaugurate the country’s first automated battery charging and swapping station for e-buses in Ahmedabad.
The Home Minister will attend an event organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to mark culmination of the civic body’s tree plantation drive, which is aimed at planting 10 lakh trees in the city, at the Science City in Ahmedabad. From the same venue, Mr Shah would also flag off newly-acquired electric-powered city buses.
Later in the day, Mr Shah, who represents Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, will attend a meeting of “Disha”, formerly known as District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee.
Disha initiative is meant for the effective implementation of Central schemes at the local level.
He would conclude his visit after attending the 7th convocation ceremony of the Gandhinagar-based Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University.
AIR correspondent reports that Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would mark the end of 3 month long campaign of Mission Million Tree near Science City.
He said that planting of 10 lakh trees has been completed with the support of the people during the current monsoon to make Ahmedabad- the greenest city in future. This mission would continue every year so that in next 3 to 4 years Ahmedabad will become the greenest city of India.
