Bhopal, June 11, 2025 (15:00 IST) — Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel emphasized the need for commitment with compassion and urgency to eliminate sickle cell disease by 2047. Speaking during a review meeting of the Sickle Cell Mission at Raj Bhavan, he said the mission’s efforts symbolize service to humanity and are a rare opportunity to serve with divine grace.

Governor Patel stated that the fight against sickle cell disease must combine empathy, urgency, and a goal-oriented approach, aiming to meet the 2047 target ahead of schedule.

He called the mission a form of service to humanity, reflecting both sensitivity and spiritual opportunity.
Mega Screening Camps from June 19 to July 3:
Camps will be organized in all gram panchayats, Eklavya residential schools, and hostels for maximum screening.
Daily Data Collection and Monitoring:
Screening through POC kits will be conducted in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and district hospitals, with daily data uploaded to a central portal.
Genetic Counseling and Documentation:
Affected individuals will receive genetic counseling, counseling cards, and be connected to further care.
Support for Identified Patients:
At block and district levels, specialist-led health camps will be organized, offering consultations, disability certificates, UDID cards, and access to pension benefits.
Ayush Department Initiatives:
In coordination with World Sickle Cell Day, 78 Ayush dispensaries across 20 tribal-majority districts will host awareness and treatment camps.
Distribution of Ayurvedic Kits:
Herbal medicine kits effective in sickle cell management will be distributed, alongside efforts to preserve and raise awareness about medicinal plants.
Community Mobilization Activities:
Programs like prabhat pheris (morning processions), yoga sessions, and gram sabhas will be conducted in affected villages to enhance public awareness.
High-Level Participation:
The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, Ayush Minister Inder Singh Parmar, senior officials from the Health and Ayush departments, NHM, and tribal welfare bodies.
