Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today visited areas affected by incessant rains for the last few days. Speaking to reporters in Sal, Bicholim, Mr Sawant informed that he reviewed the situation in the submerged low-lying areas of Bardez, Pernem and Bicholim talukas in the North Goa district.
He assured that all precautions have been taken, rescue teams are prepared for any emergency and affected families are being taken care of.
The Chief Minister informed that around 10 houses and two temples in Sal, Bicholim were submerged due to the rise in water levels and the affected people have been evacuated. Mr Sawant added that affected people in Bardez taluka have also been moved to safer areas.
He attributed the rise in water levels to the water released from the Tilari dam in Maharashtra.
The Indian Meteorological Department, Panaji has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Goa over the next two days. Meanwhile, Mr Sawant, today told the state assembly that he would write to the Centre seeking funds for providing relief to flood-affected people and for their rehabilitation.
