The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, under its Centre for Open Learning (CFOL) initiative, has announced a Basic Course in Screenplay Writing to be held in Mumbai from January 25 to January 31, 2026.
The seven-day intensive programme is aimed at entry-level writers aspiring to write for films and web series. The course will focus on story ideation, the three-act structure, character and world building, and scene construction, supported by real-world examples and practical exercises.
The course will be conducted daily from 10 am to 5 pm, with a lunch break from 1 pm to 1.30 pm, at Hall No. 39, Link Plaza Commercial Complex, Andheri West, Mumbai. Participation is limited to 25 candidates, with the course being conducted only if a minimum of 15 participants enroll.
Applicants must be 18 years or older as of January 1, 2026, and should have passed HSC (12th standard), though exceptional cases of 10th pass candidates may be considered. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply. The course fee is ₹14,000 per participant, excluding meals and refreshments.
The programme will be led by Ms Unnati Sethi, a Mumbai-based screenwriter currently working on a feature film for Tips Films and developing web series projects for reputed producers. An FTII alumna, she has previously written dialogues for and produced the short film Gair (2022), which premiered at the New York Indian Film Festival and Kashish International Film Festival.
Selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and selected candidates will be informed via email. The list of selected participants will also be published on the FTII website. Participants who successfully complete the course with a minimum 90 percent attendance will receive a participation certificate jointly signed by the FTII Director and the Course Director.
