The counting of votes to determine the fate of over 8,000 candidates vying for 542 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections began at 8 AM. According to the Election Commission of India, a record-breaking 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women, participated in this massive electoral exercise, which was overseen by 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel.
So far, the counting of postal ballots indicates a significant lead for the NDA over the INDIA bloc. According to preliminary trends reported by TV channels, the NDA is leading in 155 seats, while the INDIA bloc is ahead in 69 seats.
