In a major breakthrough, the NR-I unit of Delhi Crime Branch has apprehended a life convict in a murder case registered at Jahangir Puri Police Station, Delhi, who had been absconding since jumping parole in 2002.
According to officials, the convict managed to evade arrest for nearly 24 years by changing his identity and living secretly in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrest was carried out during a targeted operation led by Inspector Ajay Sharma under the guidance of ACP Ashok Sharma and overall supervision of DCP Pankaj Kumar.
Police said the accused had disappeared after being released on parole and remained underground for over two decades before being traced and arrested by the Crime Branch team. Further legal proceedings are underway.
