New Delhi, October 6, 2026: Cryptocurrency prices remained mixed in early trading on Tuesday, with Bitcoin at $85,582, down 0.24%, while Ether slipped 0.20% to $2,705.84. Despite the marginal daily declines, both major cryptocurrencies remained higher over the past month, with Bitcoin gaining 8.19% and Ether rising 8.63%.
Bitcoin's market capitalisation stood at approximately $1.72 trillion, while Ether's market cap was around $429.83 billion, according to the market data in the latest update.
Bitcoin, Ethereum prices today
Bitcoin was trading at $85,582, down $207 or 0.24%. The cryptocurrency was up 2.33% over the past week and 8.19% over the month, but remained down 2.19% year-to-date and 29.52% over the past year.
Ether stood at $2,705.84, declining 0.20% on the day. ETH gained 1.08% over the week and 8.63% over the month. Its year-to-date decline stood at 8.82%, while the year-on-year decline was 39.22%.
Recent market reporting has linked Bitcoin's rebound towards the $86,000 area to changing expectations around US monetary policy after weaker employment data reduced expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike in October.
Altcoins show mixed movement
Among major cryptocurrencies, Cardano fell 1.18% to $0.26731, although it remained up 9.39% over the week and 21.19% over the month. Its market capitalisation was about $9.98 billion.
Solana declined 0.23% to $120.4981, while remaining 16.03% higher over the month. XRP fell 0.56% to $1.49879, with a 7.19% monthly gain.
Polkadot declined 0.98% to $1.22, while Avalanche fell 0.15% to $11.13. Avalanche remained one of the stronger monthly performers, gaining 37.64%.
Polygon gained 0.28% to $0.11, while Cosmos declined 1.05% to $1.79.
Among other tracked assets, Uniswap fell 1.29% to $8.97, but remained up 30.78% over the month and 59.49% year-to-date. Algorand declined 0.29% to $0.13 but was up 31.39% over the month.
Bitcoin remains below last year's record
The latest figures also show that the broader cryptocurrency market remains below its levels of a year earlier. Bitcoin was down 29.52% year-on-year, while Ether was down 39.22%. Recent reporting noted that Bitcoin remains well below its October 2025 record of about $126,080.
For Indian cryptocurrency participants, the rupee is also an important factor because changes in USD/INR can affect the rupee value of dollar-denominated crypto assets. The Indian currency closed at ₹96.2925 per US dollar on October 5, with oil prices near $103 a barrel and RBI intervention influencing trading.
