Farmers often take loans to boost crop production for a better future. However, crop losses due to adverse weather or disease often prevent timely repayment. Interest accrues, future loans become inaccessible, and the farmer falls into a cycle of debt. The sensitive government under Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma has addressed this issue through the Chief Minister's Overdue Interest Relief One-Time Settlement Scheme 2025–26.
Under this scheme, farmers are eligible for a one-time interest waiver upon paying just 25% of the overdue loan amount. This enables them to re-qualify for future loans and regain financial stability.
The scheme has proven to be a boon across Rajasthan, including in Jodhpur. So far, 36 farmers from the Jodhpur Cooperative Land Development Bank Ltd. have benefited from a combined loan relief of ₹62.41 lakh. These farmers made minimal contributions to secure substantial waivers on interest and penalties.
Bringing Indebted Farmers Back Into the Mainstream
The scheme provides a pathway for financially distressed farmers to rebuild their lives and reconnect with formal credit systems. Farmers have until June 30 to deposit at least 25% of their overdue loan amount and benefit from this opportunity.
