Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah addressed CREDAI’s National Conference “Viksit Bharat @ 2047” in New Delhi, outlining the government’s long-term vision for urban development and housing .
He said the Modi government’s next-generation infrastructure push over the last 11 years has strengthened urban development and created a roadmap to build world-class infrastructure in India .
Shah highlighted that the National Infrastructure Pipeline and urban reforms have helped structure cities and remove long-standing bottlenecks in infrastructure growth .
Praising CREDAI, he said the body has brought credibility, transparency, and ethical practices to India’s real estate sector, helping it gain global acceptance .
He noted that CREDAI has contributed to sustainability by planting 20 lakh trees and restoring 9,000 acres of barren land across 25 villages, urging developers to increase green areas in all projects .
Shah underlined that urbanisation will reach nearly 40% by 2035 and 50% by 2047, making developers central to meeting India’s future housing needs .
He called for a focused push on affordable, eco-friendly housing, aligned with improved quality of life and sustainable urban living .
The minister said reforms such as RERA, GST rationalisation, single-window clearances, online tracking, and digital records have transformed real estate into a more trusted and transparent sector .
He highlighted that GST cuts on housing materials and affordable housing projects have reduced construction costs by an estimated 5–7%, accelerating housing development .
Shah noted that over 1.55 lakh real estate projects and 1.10 lakh developers are now registered under RERA, calling it a structural breakthrough recognised globally .
He urged large developers to actively participate in low-cost housing and contribute towards achieving net-zero and green building goals .
Emphasising sustainability, he said green building norms, rainwater harvesting, water recycling, energy-efficient design, and scientific waste management must become the new normal in housing .
Shah concluded by stating that responsible developers will play a crucial role in shaping livable cities, aligned with the government’s vision of a developed India by 2047 .
