The Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) in Dugli village, Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh, has emerged as a strong model of tribal women empowerment and rural entrepreneurship, building a distinct identity through aloe vera-based personal care products under the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana.
Operated under the guidance of the Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Federation, the centre is enabling tribal women to achieve financial independence and sustainable livelihoods by adding value to forest produce. Organized through self-help groups, one core group manages operations while others support production based on demand, ensuring consistent output and employment opportunities for local women.
Diverse herbal product portfolio with growing market demand
The centre currently produces around 25 varieties of medicinal and food-based herbal products, including herbal powders, health drinks, and natural wellness items, all manufactured in compliance with quality and safety standards and backed by licenses from AYUSH and food safety authorities.
Aloe vera-based soaps, creams, body wash, and handwash have gained significant market traction, driving steady growth in demand and boosting women’s income levels.
Market expansion through branding and digital platforms
With support in training, machinery, branding, and marketing, the products are reaching wider markets through state-level fairs, departmental supply chains, and online platforms. In FY 2024–25, the Dugli VDVK recorded an annual turnover of ₹74.62 lakh, highlighting its growing commercial viability and grassroots impact.
Products under the ‘Chhattisgarh Herbal’ brand are now available across selected outlets, marts, and digital channels, with regular supplies to the AYUSH Department and the Tourism Board.
