Jaipur, March 12:
Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani has directed the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to ensure that drinking water supply in Ajmer city remains uninterrupted during the summer months, with residents receiving water at least once every 48 hours. The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the Circuit House with departmental officials.
Devnani stressed that with summer arriving earlier this year, water demand is expected to rise significantly until July. He instructed officials to remain active in the field and closely monitor supply operations to prevent any disruption. Expressing dissatisfaction over lapses in the functioning of junior and assistant engineers, he warned that negligence in public service would not be tolerated.
During the meeting, officials briefed the Assembly Speaker on the progress of key drinking water projects under various government schemes. Updates were provided on the implementation of AMRUT Mission 2.0, activation of newly constructed water tanks in Makadwali and Lohagal villages, and supply expansion from reservoirs in areas including Boraj Rawat Nagar, Idgah, and the Military School zone.
Devnani also reviewed the progress of pipeline installation from Varun Sagar to the filtration plant, along with road restoration works affected during pipeline construction. Officials were asked to ensure that infrastructure development does not cause inconvenience to residents and that damaged roads are repaired promptly.
The meeting also covered budget announcements related to bulk meter installation across supply zones and preparation of DPRs for improving water supply in rural areas newly included in Ajmer Municipal Corporation limits. Progress on handpump and tubewell installations under the state budget was also discussed.
Major infrastructure projects were reviewed, including the Bisalpur–Jaipur Drinking Water Project Stage-II, which involves construction of a common intake well, raw water transmission lines, water treatment facilities, and clear water transmission systems. Additional projects include a ₹270-crore service reservoir, multiple pipeline expansion works across Ajmer and Kekri regions, and installation of a double feeder bus transfer system at key pump houses.
The Assembly Speaker emphasized that with rising temperatures, officials must ensure residents do not face drinking water shortages in the coming months.
