Raipur | February 4, 2026:
The Chhattisgarh Government’s Water Resources Department has sanctioned ₹7.90 crore for works under two key irrigation schemes in Bastar district, aimed at restoring irrigation shortfalls and expanding coverage for farmers.
Project-wise Allocation and Impact
Kumhrawand Lift Irrigation Scheme (Jagdalpur Block)
An amount of ₹4.84 crore has been approved for canal lining works. Once completed, the project will bridge an irrigation shortfall of 624.40 hectares against a designed capacity of 680 hectares, and additionally enable irrigation across 25 extra hectares.
Pithapur Tank Renovation Project (Bakawand Block)
A sanction of ₹3.06 crore has been granted for the renovation and restoration of the Pithapur tank. The project will compensate for an existing irrigation deficit of 367 hectares within the designed command area of 417 hectares, ensuring irrigation across the entire planned area.
Administrative Approval Issued
Administrative approval for execution of both projects has been issued to the Chief Engineer, Godavari Basin, Water Resources Department, Jagdalpur, to ensure timely completion of works.
Officials said the projects will significantly strengthen agricultural water security in Bastar, improve utilization of existing irrigation potential, and support higher cropping intensity in the region.
