In a major push to strengthen school education infrastructure, the Chhattisgarh government has approved ₹24.23 crore for the construction of 206 new government school buildings across 27 districts under the FY 2025–26 main budget. The decision aims to provide permanent, safe school buildings to institutions currently operating without proper infrastructure.
43 Primary Schools to Get New Buildings
Under the approval, 43 government primary schools will receive new buildings at a cost of ₹11.48 lakh per school, amounting to a total outlay of ₹4.94 crore. These schools are spread across districts including Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Khairagarh–Chhuikhadan–Gandai, Balodabazar, Bemetara, Kanker, Kondagaon, Koriya, Rajnandgaon, Surguja, Sarangarh–Bilaigarh, Jashpur, Gariaband, Mungeli, and Dhamtari, among others.
163 Upper Primary Schools Approved
Additionally, 163 government upper primary (middle) schools have been sanctioned new buildings at ₹11.84 lakh per school, involving a total expenditure of ₹19.30 crore. Major beneficiary districts include Surajpur (13 schools), Raipur (12), Sarangarh–Bilaigarh (10), Surguja (10), Kanker (9), Koriya (9), Balodabazar (8), Mahasamund (8), Gariaband (8), Mungeli (7), Kawardha (7), Narayanpur (7) and several others.
Construction Through Gram Panchayats
The government has decided that all approved school buildings will be constructed through respective Gram Panchayats. Funds will be released in two or three instalments to ensure quality control, transparency, and community participation. The expenditure will be booked under the relevant budget heads, in line with the Finance Department’s approval dated January 28, 2026.
