As the penultimate day of the finale round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2020 came to a close today, younger riders shined through on track with their power packed performances.
The IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup 2020 focuses on providing accelerated racing platform to groom young potential riders of today in their journey to become India’s star riders of tomorrow.
The highlight of 2020 have been the 10 young guns in the NSF 250R Honda India Talent cup – the first ever racing platform in the history of Indian motorsports where the next gen riders ride on the Moto3 race machine platform – NSF250R. Feeding into this as first step is the CBR 150R category of IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup with 13 riders, including the youngest of only 12 years of age!
This year, Honda took another step towards nurturing the motorsports culture in India. Creating history on the track, protective air bag vests were worn by riders in the NSF250R category for the first time in Indian two-wheeler racing thus increasing the safety and riding confidence of the riders.
Displaying his magic on track, it was 15-year old Chennai boy Kavin Quintal who outpaced competition and clocked the fastest lap time of the racing season of 2020 at 1:48:693.
Outlining the performance of the riders today, Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj, Senior Vice President – Brand & Communications, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Even though the day wasn’t in our favour in the Pro-Stock 165cc category, our seasoned trio have the never back down spirit engrained in them and are fully geared to race their best tomorrow. On the other hand, today was all about our young stars. We are extremely happy and overjoyed to see that our young riders delivered their best performance today, the epic battle in the CBR150R category amongst Vivek Kapadia and Shyam Sundar gave us another glimpse of how bright the future of Indian motorsports is. Racing brilliantly were Kavin Quintal and Varoon S who showed true merit by clinching the first and second podium in the NSF250R category. Adding to the phenomenal victory, Kavin also accomplished the feat of clocking the fastest lap time of 2020. Being ardent believers of building motorsports in India, we introduced air bag vests in the NSF250R category, a first in the Indian two-wheeler racing.”
While our veteran riders Rajiv Sethu and Mathana Kumar had difficulties with the bike and pulled out of the race for safety reasons it was rookie rider Senthil Kumar who took charge of the team performing his finest. Bouncing back from yesterday’s race, Senthil fiercely competed and made it to the third spot before he dwindled off track unable to finish the race to claim a podium win.
IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup – NSF250R and CBR150R categories
23 young guns rode on track with confidence and passion delivering some of the best races of 2020. Going head-on with the team mates from the get-go, 10 of the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup NSF250R riders and 13 in the CBR150R class raced by example as they set the track ablaze.
In a nail biting finish, riders Sarthak Chavan, Kavin Quintal and Varoon S were engaged in an intense battle to claim the final spots. While Sarthak Chavan sprung from the third position on the grid to the first as the race started he unfortunately lost his front during the last lap leading to being dropped out of the race. While Varoon S went wide on the last corner, it was Kavin Quintal who calmly made the last move on his team mate inches away from the finish line to score the first podium. With 0.143 seconds away Chennai boy Varoon S clinched the second podium win and Geoffery followed his team mates on the third podium.
It was a photo finish for the race of the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup CBR150R class as riders Shyam Sundar and Vivek Rohit Kapadia battled it at every turning point to secure the top spot. It was Vivek Rohit Kapadia that stalled Shyam Sundar till the end to pip him on the last turn clinching the top podium. Shyam Sundar settled at the second podium.
