FC Goa will look to recover from their recent defeat against Bengaluru FC when they face league leaders Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Currently fifth in the league standings with 12 points, a victory could help Carlos Pena's side move up to third place. However, the Gaurs face a formidable challenge against Mumbai City FC, who remain unbeaten this season and lead the table with 18 points.
The two teams enter the fixture with contrasting recent records. FC Goa have lost two of their last three matches, while Mumbai City FC are riding a three-match winning streak and will be aiming for a fourth consecutive victory.
Despite their recent setbacks, FC Goa will look to maintain confidence in their playing style and challenge the league leaders.
Carlos Pena Emphasises Confidence and Mentality
Speaking ahead of the match, FC Goa head coach Carlos Pena stressed the importance of playing without fear and maintaining the right mentality.
“You cannot play football with fear. It’s a game – you may win, lose or draw – but if you play with fear, you’re not going to enjoy the game and give your 100%. I think we have shown that we can stick to our style and identity regardless of our opposition, and let’s see who can take the better advantage of their chances,” Pena said at the pre-match press conference.
He also highlighted the importance of team mentality and the progress FC Goa have made compared to last season, when they finished ninth.
“Mentality is a key aspect for top teams. We had a good start to this season, as compared to last year when the team finished ninth. We see that as a big positive, something which we want to build upon,” he said.
