The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in Group C of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7.
In a letter addressed to member boards, ICC Chief Executive Officer Sanjog Gupta informed that Bangladesh’s request to play its scheduled matches outside India was not in line with ICC policy. He stated that, under the circumstances, the ICC had no alternative but to include Scotland in the tournament.
A copy of the letter was also sent to ICC Board Member and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam. Separately, Mr. Gupta wrote to Cricket Scotland, formally inviting the team to participate in the championship being hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Earlier, the ICC had asked Bangladesh to reconsider its position on playing matches in India. The global cricket body reiterated that it remains committed to protecting the integrity and fairness of the World Cup.
With this decision, Scotland will compete in Group C during the opening phase of the tournament. Scotland’s fixtures include matches against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9, and England on February 14, followed by a clash against Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.
