The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an orange alert for dense fog in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi, warning of reduced visibility and possible disruption to road, rail and air traffic.
According to the weather department, dense fog conditions are likely to persist till Saturday in Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim. The IMD has also forecast a cold wave in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan during this period.
Meanwhile, the department said that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning today.
The IMD further predicted strong surface winds over the next two to three days across several regions, including parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, north Tamil Nadu coast, Sri Lanka coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin area.
Authorities have advised residents and commuters in affected regions to remain cautious and follow weather-related advisories.
