Rohtak, April 19, 2026: Nayab Singh Saini has alleged that the Opposition, led by Indian National Congress, deliberately obstructed the passage of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament, calling it a setback for women’s rights.
Addressing a press conference in Rohtak, the Chief Minister said the failure to pass the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam reflects the “true mindset” of Opposition parties.
‘Historic Opportunity Sacrificed’
Saini stated that the bill’s collapse was not just a political event but a major blow to women’s empowerment.
“This was a historic opportunity to ensure constitutional guarantees for women, but it was sacrificed for narrow political gains,” he said.
He described the Opposition’s actions as:
- Undemocratic
- A setback for “half the country’s population”
- Reflective of an anti-women mindset
Opposition Parties Named
The Haryana CM directly blamed multiple parties for blocking the bill, including:
- Indian National Congress
- Samajwadi Party
- Trinamool Congress
- Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
He alleged these parties have historically “pretended” to support women’s reservation without taking concrete action.
‘Fear of Women Empowerment’ Claim
Saini further accused Opposition leaders of resisting the bill due to political insecurity.
He claimed that empowering women could challenge “dynastic politics,” which some parties rely on.
He also dismissed concerns raised by Opposition leaders over delimitation, calling them misleading.
Delimitation Row Intensifies
The Chief Minister said misinformation was being spread that certain states would lose representation due to delimitation.
According to him:
- The narrative was used to confuse the public
- It diverted attention from the core issue of women’s political representation.
