Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar today inaugurated a week-long workshop (online) on ‘Capacity Building through Geo-spatial Techniques’ under the aegis of UGC SAP-DRS-1 Programme for PhD & Post Graduate students . The workshop, organised by the Department of Geography, JMI will continue till 6th December, 2020.The main aim of the workshop is to build the capacity on Geo-spatial Techniques which is one of the most widely used techniques across the disciplines at present. Through this workshop the participants shall get acquainted with the basic concepts on Geo-spatial Techniques and the use of methods/tools for research problem analysis.The workshop is oriented towards providing end to end knowledge of the application of remote sensing and GIS in solving real world socio-economic problems.Dr. D. Dutta, Scientist-G Head & Adviser Societal Mission Division & Science for Equity Empowerment and Development (SEED) Division and Head Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS) Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of was the Guest of Honor at the inaugural Function.The Inaugural session of the workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. Mary Tahir, HoD Geography, JMI . After welcoming the Chief Guest, other dignitaries and participants she briefed about the significance of the workshop. Prof. Atiqur Rahman, Coordinator, UGC-DRS-I & Coordinator of the workshop explained about objectives and benefits of the workshop.The inaugural session ended with the presentation of a vote of thanks by Dr. Taruna Bansal, Department of Geography, JMI
