The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has undertaken a series of measures to strengthen infrastructure facilities at Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, with enhanced funding, large-scale construction, and multi-ministry convergence.
Key infrastructure enhancements:
Drinking water provision increased from ₹10,000 to ₹17,000 per AWC.
Toilet construction funding enhanced from ₹12,000 to ₹36,000 per AWC.
Large-scale AWC construction:
50,000 AWC buildings to be constructed over five years (10,000 per year) in convergence with MGNREGS.
Funding per AWC includes ₹8 lakh under MGNREGS, ₹2 lakh from 15th Finance Commission grants (or other untied funds), and ₹2 lakh from MWCD, shared between Centre and States/UTs as per the prescribed cost-sharing ratio.
States and UTs have also been advised to leverage additional funding sources such as MPLADS, RIDF, Finance Commission grants to PRIs, and MSDP of the Ministry of Minority Affairs for AWC construction.
Saksham Anganwadis under Poshan 2.0:
2 lakh Anganwadi Centres located in Government buildings are being upgraded as Saksham Anganwadis at the rate of 40,000 per year during the 15th Finance Commission cycle.
These centres are equipped with improved infrastructure, including LED screens, water filtration systems, Poshan Vatikas, ECCE learning material, and BALA paintings.
Targeted interventions for tribal and border areas:
2,500 AWCs sanctioned under PM JANMAN for the development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
875 AWCs sanctioned under Dharti Abha Janjati Gram Unnat Abhiyan.
101 AWCs sanctioned under Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) – Phase I in northern border States and UTs.
