Awareness programmes under the national campaign ‘Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat (BVMB)’ have reached over 6 crore citizens, with more than 28 lakh pledges registered against child marriage, reflecting strong community participation and nationwide engagement.
Launched on 27 November 2024, the campaign aims to make India child-marriage-free through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, focusing on awareness generation, community mobilisation, capacity building of enforcement machinery, and empowerment of adolescent girls through education and skilling.
To intensify efforts, the Government launched a 100-Day Special Campaign on 4 December 2025, designed to mobilise stakeholders in a structured and time-bound manner. The initiative mandates the uploading of Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs) details on the BVMB portal and prioritises targeted outreach to institutions, community leaders, and service providers.
Spell-wise implementation:
Spell I (Nov 27–Dec 31, 2025): Sensitisation in schools, colleges, and universities through debates, essay competitions, and pledge drives.
Spell II (Jan 1–31, 2026): Engagement with religious institutions and marriage-related service providers to discourage child marriage and display IEC material.
Spell III (Feb 1–Mar 8, 2026): Mobilisation of Gram Panchayats and Municipal Wards to pass resolutions declaring areas child-marriage-free.
A dedicated digital platform — https://stopchildmarriage.wcd.gov.in — enables reporting of child marriage incidents, dissemination of information, and registration of pledges. The portal currently hosts details of over 60,700 CMPOs across States and Union Territories, enabling faster reporting and timely intervention.
The campaign strengthens enforcement of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, through capacity building of CMPOs, police officials, child protection committees, ASHAs, and ANMs. Complementary initiatives under Mission Shakti, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, along with efforts by NCPCR and NALSA, further support prevention, awareness, and legal aid.
