Water Resources Minister Mr. Suresh Rawat stated that the upcoming 'Vande Ganga – Water Conservation Campaign', scheduled across Rajasthan from June 5 to June 20, should be transformed into a mass movement for the maximum collection of rainwater and maintenance of existing water sources during the monsoon season. Mr. Rawat was reviewing preparations for the campaign via video conference from the Bikaner District Collectorate.
The minister emphasized ensuring everyone’s labor and participation, including public representatives, women, youth, farmers, journalists, police personnel, NCC, Civil Defense, NGOs, and various social organizations. The campaign will focus on cleaning wells, stepwells, ponds, tanks, and water harvesting structures. Activities like rath yatras, kalash yatras, street plays, and morning rallies will be organized for public awareness.
Mr. Rawat also informed that 100% desilting of all water channels will be carried out during the campaign. As this cannot be completed in just a day or two, the cleaning process will continue throughout the campaign period. The administration is instructed to involve patwaris, gram panchayats, and utilize MNREGA for the cleaning work.
Additionally, he directed officials to identify low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and take appropriate measures. Each village should host at least one water conservation activity, and information boards should be installed near old water bodies to educate the public about their significance.
Through video conference, Sri Ganganagar District Collector Dr. Manju assured that the campaign will be implemented in full spirit as per state government directives. Public participation will be maximized, and the district targets the plantation of 1.5 million saplings during the campaign.
