Chennai, October 22:
With 12 points from 17 matches, UP Yoddhas will play their final league match with hopes of finishing the season on a high note and keeping their slim play-in chances alive. Overall, the team will look to seal their place in the next round by defeating U Mumba.
This season has been full of ups and downs, with several close encounters not going their way. Yet, the Yoddhas’ biggest strength has been their fighting spirit — something they’ll aim to display once again in this crucial clash against U Mumba.
In their previous outing, UP Yoddhas suffered a 29-42 defeat against Jaipur Pink Panthers. However, there were several positives to take from the game. Senior raider Surender Gill led from the front with an impressive 12-point performance, showcasing precision and determination in his trademark style. Guman Singh contributed six raid points, providing vital support in the frontline, while Hitesh and Gagan Gowda added two tackle points each.
Captain Ashu Singh and Mahender Singh anchored the defense with full commitment against Jaipur’s aggressive attack. Although the team couldn’t secure a win, competing strongly against one of the top sides of the league reflected their potential and resilience.
Interim coach Upendra Malik expressed confidence in the team’s mindset, saying,
“This campaign has indeed been challenging, but the boys have played with their hearts. Over the past few seasons, we’ve worked on key areas, and now the focus is on executing our plans with confidence. A good result tomorrow will reflect the team’s fighting spirit.”
The play-in race remains open ahead of their final game. UP Yoddhas not only need a convincing win but must also hope for favorable results in other matches to break into the top eight.
Though the road ahead is tough, earlier victories against Gujarat Giants and Tamil Thalaivas will boost the team’s morale.
For the Yoddhas, this final encounter is about more than just qualification — it’s about pride, progress, and the reward for their consistent efforts. If they play with the same passion and determination that have defined their journey so far, a place in the play-ins is still within reach.
