September 20, 2021: 18 year oldSachinShekhawat, hailing from Harmada in Jaipur district of Rajasthan, aced the IIT JEE Mains exam, scoring 99.95 percentile. After three years of hard work, he managed to secure an All India Rank of 66, becoming the only person from his village to accomplish this feat.
Born into a modest middle class family, Sachin hadn’t heard of the Indian Institute of Technology till Class 11. However, a chance meeting with a senior from his class changed his outlook and his career aspirations. He began preparing for one of India’s toughest competitive exams, IIT JEE on the Unacademy platform.
“I found Unacademy on YouTube and discovered that their content was much better than anyone else. So I joined Unacademy and that helped me boost my preparations in more ways than one, especially towards the end. The test series and practice courses on each subject were a great help,” he said.
Studying at Unacademy enabled Sachin to prepare for IIT JEE with the best teachers and quality resources at just a fraction of the cost of offline institutes. And this proved to be a great boon, particularly owing to the financial constraints of his family. Sachin’s father holds a government job in the IT department.
Sachin’s strategy for cracking IIT JEE Mains has been consistency and hard work. “I would put in 8-9 hours everyday, making sure I don’t take too many breaks in between. The idea was to keep up the momentum and not lose focus. But most importantly it’s important to have faith in yourself and not get demotivated at any stage,” he said.
The youngster plans to pursue his Bachelor’s of Technology from IIT and become an entrepreneur. But for now, the immediate goal is to crack the IIT JEE Advanced Exam, which will take him one step closer to his dream of studying at IIT.
