The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing two major skill development initiatives under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) — Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Rural Self Employment and Training Institutes (RSETI).
DDU-GKY is a placement-linked skill development programme operating in PPP mode to provide assured jobs to rural youth. In 2018-19, around 2.28 lakh youths were trained against a target of 2 lakh. The scheme also encourages projects funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and reserves 15% of funds for minority beneficiaries at the national level.
RSETI focuses on self-employment training, enabling youth to access bank credit and start micro-enterprises, while some may also pursue salaried jobs. During 2018-19, around 4.03 lakh youths were trained under the scheme against a target of 3.95 lakh.
Both schemes are being implemented across rural areas of all states in the country. The information was provided by Union Rural Development Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
