A youth has leveled serious allegations against the local police, claiming he was beaten and forced to pay a bribe before being released. Rahul Lodhi, a resident of Gangapur Bars village, has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to Rahul, he had accompanied his friend Suresh Kushwaha to the Lalganj police station after a dispute with villagers Ajit, Sunil, and Sachin Yadav. While at the station, Rahul alleges that the opposing group attacked them in front of the police. When Rahul attempted to record the incident on video, the police reportedly became angry.
Suresh was given medical treatment and sent home, but Rahul claims he was taken into custody. He alleges that constable Jamwant demanded ₹50,000 for his release. After he refused, Rahul says he was held overnight and beaten. The following day, his family reportedly paid ₹20,000 to SI Subhash Yadav and constable Pankaj Yadav, following which Rahul was released.
Raebareli Superintendent of Police Dr. Yashveer Singh stated that the matter has come to their attention and that the area officer will conduct an investigation, after which appropriate action will be taken.
