As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) for the Himachal Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA), covering Baddi city and surrounding localities. The assessment was conducted during November 2025 to evaluate real-world mobile network performance across multiple service environments.
The drive tests were carried out under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office, Delhi, and aimed to capture user experience in urban areas, institutional hotspots, public transport hubs, high-density neighbourhoods, and high-speed corridors.
Scope of the Assessment
Between November 11 and November 13, 2025, TRAI teams conducted:
180 km of city drive tests
6 hotspot locations
2.3 km of walk tests
Inter-operator calling at one location
The evaluation covered 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies, reflecting the service experience across a wide range of handset capabilities. The findings have already been shared with the concerned Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).

In hotspot locations, 5G services from RJIL and Airtel recorded significantly higher download and upload speeds compared to 4G networks, demonstrating improved performance in high-usage environments.
Areas Covered
The assessment included high-density localities such as Panjhera, Nalagarh, Barotiwala, Baddi, Gularwala, Haripurm, and nearby regions. Public locations evaluated included Baddi Bus Stand, Baddi University, City Hospital Baddi, Maurice Square Mall, Durga Kali Dham Mata Mandir, and Shri Aurobindo Public School.
A walk test conducted on November 13, 2025, focused on City Square Mall and Gol Market, Baddi, to assess network performance in crowded pedestrian areas.
