Prime Minister Welcomes Passage of Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the passage of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 in both Houses of Parliament and thanked all political parties and Members of Parliament who supported it.
In a series of statements and social media posts, the Prime Minister said the legislation marks a significant step toward gender justice and women’s empowerment, and that Parliament has corrected a long-standing historical wrong by abolishing the practice of instant triple talaq.
He described the move as a milestone in India’s legislative history and said it will be remembered for advancing equality and protecting the dignity of Muslim women.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the courage of women who had suffered due to the practice, stating that the abolition of triple talaq would strengthen women’s rights and social empowerment.
He further emphasized that the reform reflects a commitment to ensuring equal rights and dignity for all women in society.
