Parliament Passes Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019
Parliament has passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019, marking a significant legislative development aimed at prohibiting the practice of instant triple talaq.
Welcoming the passage of the Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling the government’s commitment to bring in legislation banning the practice.
He also extended his greetings to Muslim women across the country, stating that the law frees them from what he described as a regressive practice and strengthens their rights and dignity.
The Home Minister emphasized that the legislation represents a major step toward women’s empowerment and protection of rights, and will enable greater participation of women in nation-building. He added that the Bill reflects a new phase of social reform and inclusive development under the government.
Shri Shah further thanked Members of Parliament across party lines for supporting the Bill, calling it a positive moment for Indian democracy and legislative progress.
