Stolen customer data, including medical reports, from India's largest health insurer, Star Health, is reportedly accessible through chatbots on Telegram. This comes just weeks after the platform's founder faced criticism for allegedly enabling criminal activities.
A purported creator of the chatbots informed a security researcher—who then alerted Reuters—that private information from millions of individuals is being sold, with samples available for viewing upon request. Through these chatbots, Reuters was able to download various documents, including policy and claims files that contained names, phone numbers, addresses, tax details, ID card copies, test results, and medical diagnoses.
The feature allowing users to create chatbots is often credited with helping Telegram, based in Dubai, become one of the largest messaging apps in the world, boasting 900 million active monthly users.
