Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, held a telephonic discussion today with U.S. Secretary of Energy, Mr. Rick Perry. The leaders focused on collaborative efforts to enhance energy security and accelerate the development of a gas-based economy in India.
Expanding the Strategic Energy Partnership
The discussion centered on bolstering the India-U.S. Strategic Energy Partnership, which was originally launched in New Delhi in April 2018. The Ministers reviewed the progress of the four specialized Working Groups established under this framework:
Oil & Gas
Power & Energy Efficiency
Renewable Energy
Sustainable Development
Both leaders agreed to convene the second formal meeting of the Strategic Energy Partnership at an early date to further integrate energy and innovation linkages.
Addressing Market Volatility and Supply
Minister Pradhan highlighted the significant impact of crude oil price volatility on Indian consumers. He underscored the critical role the United States plays in maintaining global price stability and noted the increasing importance of the U.S. as a reliable source of oil and gas for India.
The call concluded with both Ministers reaffirming their commitment to working closely to improve overall bilateral engagement and ensure a stable, secure energy future for both nations.
