Senior BJP leader Manohar Lal will take oath as Chief Minister of Haryana in a ceremony at Haryana Raj Bhavan this afternoon to begin his second consecutive term in office.
Governor of Haryana Satyadev Narayan Arya yesterday invited BJP to form the government. Mr. Arya invited chief minister-elect Manohar Lal Khattar and his to-be deputy JJP’s Dushyant Chautala for a swearing-in ceremony.
Talking to media, Manohar Lal said, the governor has accepted their claim and invited them to form the government. He added that some ministers would take also oath but did not specify the number.
Manohar Lal met the governor after being elected as the leader of BJP’s legislative party in Haryana during a meeting yesterday attended by Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP general secretary Arun Singh.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Prasad said, the party would provide a stable, honest and effective government in the state.
Manohar Lal will head a coalition government with Jannayak Janta Party and six independents. He will be the first non-Congress chief minister in 53 years to form his second successive government.
In the 90-member assembly, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party with 40 seats. JJP has won 10 seats and independent 7.
