AIIMS Resident Doctors Call Off Strike
Resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have called off their strike following discussions with Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and representatives of resident doctors’ associations from AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital.
Meeting with Health Minister
Dr. Harsh Vardhan met the representatives of resident doctors at his residence in New Delhi. During the meeting, he addressed their concerns and clarified doubts related to the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill.
He stated that the Bill represents a major reform in medical education and will help improve healthcare services for the country’s population.
Decision by Resident Doctors Association
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA), AIIMS, held a General Body Meeting after the discussions. The executive committee announced:
- Withdrawal of the strike with immediate effect
- Resumption of all medical services by resident doctors
- Condition: The strike period should be treated as “On Duty” by AIIMS administration
Background
Resident doctors had been on strike and staging protests over certain provisions of the National Medical Commission Bill following its passage in the Rajya Sabha.
The withdrawal of the strike is expected to restore normal medical services at AIIMS.
