In West Bengal, repolling began on Thursday in the Falta Assembly Constituency of South 24 Parganas district following the Election Commission’s decision to cancel the earlier polling held on April 29 over alleged electoral irregularities.
Voting started at 7 AM and will continue till 6 PM amid heightened scrutiny and security arrangements.
The Election Commission ordered a complete repoll after receiving multiple complaints related to voter intimidation, unauthorized presence inside polling booths, and suspected tampering with EVMs.
A total of six candidates are in the fray, including two independents.
Key candidates:
- BJP candidate: Debangshu Panda
- Congress candidate: Abdur Razzak Molla
- CPI(M) candidate: Sambhu Nath Kurmi
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan has announced that he will not contest the election. However, his name remains on the ballot as the withdrawal deadline had already passed.
