Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sumit Godara said that the state government’s top priority is to ensure that no eligible family is deprived of food security benefits and that every deserving family receives the benefits of the scheme. He emphasized that transparency, accountability, and sensitivity are key to successfully implementing these initiatives. The minister added that motivating ineligible beneficiaries to voluntarily give up their benefits and ensuring timely distribution of ration to eligible families are major focuses of the state government.
Presiding over a departmental review meeting at the District Collectorate Auditorium in Jaisalmer on Saturday, Minister Godara said that under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s leadership, the ‘Give-Up Campaign’ has been implemented across the state as an innovative initiative. As a result, around 41 lakh beneficiaries voluntarily gave up their food security benefits, while over 69 lakh new beneficiaries have been added to the food security list based on eligibility. This has ensured that needy families continue to receive food support.
In Jaisalmer district alone, 43,164 beneficiaries voluntarily gave up their food security benefits, while 70,821 new eligible families were added to the scheme.
The minister highlighted that as part of the Chief Minister’s budget announcement, a 10% increase in the commission of fair price shop owners has been approved. Earlier, they faced delays in receiving payments, but the present government has ensured payment of commissions up to August–September 2025, and efforts are underway to further expedite these payments. He also appreciated the efforts of the district administration and supply department officials for their commendable work under the campaign.
Godara directed officials to intensify the campaign and raise public awareness so that ineligible beneficiaries—including income tax payers, state/central government employees, four-wheeler owners, and families with annual income above ₹1 lakh—voluntarily remove themselves from the food security list.
He also instructed officials to issue notifications for new fair price shops and ensure timely action so that residents in those areas can easily access food security benefits locally. The minister appealed to public representatives to encourage ineligible individuals to voluntarily withdraw and help eligible families enroll in the scheme.
