Jaipur, May 7: Rajasthan is rapidly emerging as India’s renewable energy powerhouse under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, with the state making significant strides toward energy self-reliance through large-scale renewable energy production.
Driven by the Chief Minister’s development-focused vision, Rajasthan has transformed its abundant sunlight from a climatic challenge into a major economic and energy advantage. The state has now positioned itself as the country’s “Energy Engine” in renewable electricity generation.
Over the last two financial years, Rajasthan has generated more than 12,647 crore units of electricity from non-conventional energy sources, marking a major milestone in the state’s clean energy transition.
Strong Growth in Renewable Energy Production
Rajasthan’s renewable energy generation crossed 5,735 crore units in FY 2024–25. In FY 2025–26, the figure has already surpassed 6,912 crore units, reflecting consistent year-on-year growth and the state’s accelerating shift toward alternative energy sources.
The sharp increase highlights Rajasthan’s expanding role in India’s green energy ecosystem and its growing contribution to national energy security.
Rajasthan Strengthens Position as “Solar Capital of India”
With abundant sunlight available throughout the year, Rajasthan has firmly established itself as the “Solar Capital of India.”
Solar energy remains the state’s biggest strength. Rajasthan produced more than 4,910 crore units of solar power in FY 2024–25. In FY 2025–26, solar energy production increased further to over 5,992 crore units.
The state’s large-scale solar infrastructure, favorable climatic conditions, and policy support have significantly accelerated renewable energy investments.
Wind, Biomass and Hydro Energy Also Witness Growth
Alongside solar power, Rajasthan has also made notable progress in wind, biomass and hydro energy generation.
Western districts such as Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur continue to emerge as major wind energy hubs due to their high wind potential.
Over the past two years:
- Wind energy generation crossed 1,428 crore units
- Biomass energy production exceeded 117 crore units
- Small hydro projects generated over 1 crore units
- Large hydro projects contributed more than 197 crore units
The diversified energy mix reflects the state government’s strategic focus on strengthening multiple renewable energy sources.
Policy Push and Infrastructure Expansion Fuel Growth
The Rajasthan government has credited its progress to policy reforms, investment-friendly measures, and infrastructure expansion.
Key initiatives include:
- Expansion of solar parks
- Promotion of private investment
- Simplification of project approval processes
- Strengthening of transmission infrastructure
The state government aims to position Rajasthan not only as an energy self-reliant state but also as a major energy supplier for the country in the coming years.
Central Government Schemes Accelerating Renewable Expansion
Several central government initiatives are also playing a key role in Rajasthan’s renewable growth, including:
- PM Kusum Yojana
- PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
- National Green Hydrogen Mission
- Solar Park schemes
Under PM Kusum Yojana, Rajasthan has achieved over 4,027 MW of installed solar capacity. The state’s total installed solar power capacity has now crossed 41,000 MW.
With sustained policy momentum, rising investments and expanding renewable infrastructure, Rajasthan is strengthening its position as one of India’s leading clean energy states while contributing significantly to the country’s long-term energy security and sustainability goals.
