Receiving more than 70 dialysis sessions free of cost in the last eight months is not just a statistic, but a lifeline for 65-year-old Shri Kumar Bhaskar. Had the same treatment been availed at a private hospital, it would have cost over ₹2 lakh, an amount far beyond the means of his family. Today, he is able to undergo regular treatment without financial anxiety, restoring hope where it once seemed lost.
A resident of Kawalpur village in the Kunda area of Kabirdham district, Shri Bhaskar has been battling kidney disease for a long time. After his diagnosis, he initially had to travel to Raipur for treatment. The long journey, high medical expenses and travelling alone in a weak condition posed severe challenges. His two sons, both farmers, were forced to spend most of their earnings on medical care, and at times, dialysis had to be skipped due to lack of funds.
Relief came when Shri Bhaskar learned about the free dialysis facility at the District Hospital, Kabirdham. He shifted his treatment locally, eliminating the need for long-distance travel and easing the financial burden. With timely and regular dialysis, his health has shown steady improvement.
The free dialysis service at District Hospital, Kabirdham, has emerged as a major relief for patients in need. While a single dialysis session at a private hospital typically costs ₹2,000 to ₹3,000, the free service has offered a new lease of life to economically weaker patients.
So far, 123 patients have benefited from this facility in the district, with 35 patients undergoing regular dialysis. Equipped with five modern dialysis machines, the hospital has conducted over 12,710 free dialysis sessions, significantly strengthening access to life-saving healthcare for vulnerable sections of society.
