In a significant move to enforce attendance regulations, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has cancelled the affiliation of 21 schools across India. This decision follows inspections conducted on September 3, 2024, at 27 board-affiliated schools, which uncovered several irregularities, including a high number of absentee students.
The CBSE issued show-cause notices to the affected schools, giving them a 30-day window to address the issues identified. After a thorough review of their responses, the board decided to revoke the affiliation of 21 schools—6 located in Kota and Sikar, Rajasthan, and 16 in Delhi. Additionally, six Delhi-based schools were downgraded from senior secondary to secondary level due to violations.
CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta explained, "The practice of dummy or non-attending admissions undermines the very essence of school education, hindering students' essential development. With this action, we aim to combat the growing problem of dummy schools and send a strong message to all affiliated institutions to reject the practice of admitting students who do not attend classes."
