The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has introduced PMAY (Urban) Awards for Beneficiaries for the first time to recognize the contributions of States, Union Territories, Urban Local Bodies, and beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
The awards aim to encourage the construction of aesthetically designed and sustainable homes. Beneficiaries under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) component will be recognized for innovative and attractive housing designs. Winners will be honored at a national-level event.
PMAY(U) has approved over 85 lakh houses against a demand of around 112 lakh urban houses. Of these, nearly 50 lakh houses are under construction and more than 26 lakh have been completed.
To facilitate participation, the Ministry launched a PMAY(U) mobile app that allows beneficiaries to share photographs, videos, and success stories of home ownership. The app has reached over 50,000 beneficiaries across the country. The last date for participation in the awards was August 20, 2019.
